Rugby League Challenge Cup Semi-Finals Set to Be Officiated by Experienced Referees
(Doncaster, UK – May 18, 2023) The officiating teams for the highly anticipated semi-finals of the prestigious Challenge Cup have now been confirmed, with seasoned referee Chris Kendall set to take charge of the first match between Hull KR and Wigan Warriors at the Eco-Power Stadium in Doncaster.
Contrary to previous rounds, the semi-final fixtures will be broadcast by the BBC, ensuring the presence of video referees to oversee the action, a move that is likely to be welcomed by rugby league enthusiasts. The Robins secured their spot in the last four after comfortably dispatching Salford Red Devils and Leigh Leopards at Craven Park, while the Warriors steamrolled Sheffield Eagles at home before overcoming Castleford Tigers on the road.
“While there are no Super League fixtures this week, some familiar names will be officiating matches in the RFL Championship.”
While Hull KR enter the match following a disappointing defeat to Warrington Wolves, Wigan arrive in confident form, having thrashed Huddersfield Giants 48-6 despite Liam Byrne’s early sin-binning. Interestingly, the two sides met earlier in the season, with the Robins emerging as 26-10 victors.
In the other semi-final, Huddersfield Giants, fresh off a shock 34-6 victory over Catalans Dragons, will face Warrington Wolves, who defeated St Helens 31-8, at the Totally Wicked Stadium in St Helens. Liam Moore will be the referee for this encounter, with Ben Thaler taking on the video referee role. Notably, Liam Moore’s younger brother, Aaron Moore, will serve as the reserve referee.
With the semi-finals of the 2023 Challenge Cup set to showcase the best of rugby league, the selection of these experienced officials promises to ensure a high-quality and closely contested affair that will captivate rugby league enthusiasts across the country.
