Rugby League Update: Positive Injury News for Hull KR Ahead of Challenge Cup Semi-Final

On the eve of Hull KR’s Challenge Cup semi-final clash against reigning Super League champions Wigan Warriors, head coach Willie Peters has provided a positive update on the fitness of two key players.

Minchella and Luckley Poised to Feature

Speaking in his pre-match press conference, Peters confirmed that both captain Elliot Minchella (groin) and prop Sam Luckley (wrist) are on track to feature in Saturday’s high-stakes encounter in Doncaster.

“Sam’s okay,” Peters revealed. “There is a little bit of an issue there, so it’s something that we might have to have a look at a little bit later on in the year.”

Regarding Minchella, the coach noted:

“Mini’s on track. He trained yesterday, he didn’t do the whole session but he’s hoping to do more tomorrow.”

Depth in the Forwards

The Robins were without their influential duo in last Thursday’s 20-8 defeat to Warrington Wolves, but Peters is optimistic about their involvement in the crucial Challenge Cup semi-final against the Warriors.

With Tom Opacic also set to come back into consideration, the Hull KR boss acknowledged the tough selection decisions ahead, stating:

“There’s some big calls around our forwards, we’ve got some depth there.”

Peters Commits Long-Term Future

Elsewhere, Peters recently committed his long-term future to the club, signing a contract extension until the end of the 2028 season. The Australian coach emphasized the importance of his family’s happiness and his own deep connection to the club, which he likened to the NRL team he grew up with.

“The family’s comfortable, the family’s happy first and foremost,” Peters said. “And naturally I love the club. It’s got a lot of similarities to the club that I grew up in, in the NRL, from a community point of view and just where we’re at, at the moment.”

With key players set to return and the coach’s long-term commitment secured, Hull KR will be eager to secure a spot in the Challenge Cup final as they aim to continue their exciting journey under Willie Peters.
