Rugby League Enthusiasts Gear Up for Thrilling Challenge Cup Semi-Finals
As the rugby league season reaches a crucial juncture, rugby fans are eagerly anticipating the upcoming Challenge Cup semi-finals. This weekend will see a host of exciting matchups, with seven different clubs vying for a spot in the prestigious final at Wembley Stadium.
On Saturday, May 18th, the action kicks off at the Eco-Power Stadium in Doncaster. In the women’s competition, reigning champions St Helens will take on York Valkyrie, with the Saints aiming to secure a second consecutive trip to Wembley. The two teams met at this stage last year, with St Helens emerging victorious on their way to lifting the trophy for the third year running. However, York have already proven they can beat the Red V this season, with former Saint Carrie Roberts scoring the winning try in a 20-16 victory.
In the men’s semi-final, Hull KR will host Wigan Warriors in a repeat of last year’s clash. KR boss Willie Peters has had to make a couple of changes to his squad, with recent recruits Jack Brown and Jack Broadbent ineligible due to being cup-tied. Youngsters Reiss Butterworth and Louix Gorman have been called up to replace them, while captain Elliot Minchella is named having missed out last week through injury. Wigan make just one enforced change, with the suspended Liam Byrne replaced by Ryan Hampshire.
The action continues on Sunday, May 19th, at the Totally Wicked Stadium in St Helens. In the women’s semi-final, Wigan Warriors will take on Leeds Rhinos, with the squads yet to be confirmed. In the men’s fixture, Warrington Wolves will face Huddersfield Giants, with the full squad details still to be announced.
