Hull FC Bolster Squad with Promising Papua New Guinea Hooker
As the 2025 Super League season rapidly approaches, Hull FC have been making waves in the transfer market, spearheaded by the arrival of new Director of Rugby Richie Myler and head coach John Cartwright. The Black and Whites have been busy securing a host of signings, including Cartwright’s son Jed and Treigh Stewart, a Papua New Guinea Prime Minister’s XIII representative.
Now, it appears the club has found a replacement for the retiring club legend Danny Houghton, with reports indicating that they have signed Papua New Guinea international hooker Judah Rimbu for the upcoming campaign.
Rimbu, 22, has been plying his trade for the PNG Hunters in the Queensland Cup, amassing an impressive 58 appearances over the last four seasons and scoring 11 tries. His standout performances have earned him an international debut for the Kumuls, where he has featured alongside fellow hooker and Leigh Leopards star Edwin Ipape.
Known for his strong, direct, and athletic running style, Rimbu’s playing attributes closely mirror those of his international teammate Ipape, whose success in the English game has undoubtedly piqued the interest of the Hull FC coaching staff.
At just 22 years old, Rimbu’s best years are undoubtedly ahead of him, and if he can replicate even a fraction of the achievements of the departing Houghton during his illustrious Hull FC career, the young hooker could quickly become a fan favorite at the MKM Stadium.
The signing of Rimbu is the latest in a series of high-profile acquisitions for Hull FC, as the club continues its extensive squad overhaul under the guidance of Myler and Cartwright. With the 2025 season just around the corner, the Black and Whites’ supporters will be eagerly anticipating the contributions of their new recruits, including the promising Papua New Guinea international, Judah Rimbu.
