Wales Unveils Exciting U20 Championship Squad, Captained by Dragons’ Ryan Woodman

The Wales national rugby union team has announced their squad for the upcoming 2024 World Rugby U20 Championship, set to take place in South Africa. The team will be captained by the returning Dragons RFC back row Ryan Woodman, who missed the recent Six Nations championship due to injury.

The squad includes two uncapped players, brothers Ioan and Steffan Emanuel, who will be looking to make their international debuts. Hooker Isaac Young, along with the Emanuel siblings and Woodman, are the only players in the squad who didn’t feature in the Six Nations.

Head coach Richard Whiffin expressed his confidence in the squad, stating:

“We have got power throughout the team with genuine athletes in all areas of the field. The way we want to play is to move the ball and express ourselves in the wider channels. Hopefully, we have a team who can be competitive in what is an extremely competitive pool.”

Woodman, who has had a “massive impact” since rejoining the squad, is described as a “natural leader” whose physicality and calmness will be a valuable addition to the team.

The Welsh side will face a challenging pool, drawn against defending champions France, as well as New Zealand and Spain. The team will be looking to bounce back from their fifth-place finish in the recent Six Nations championship, where they secured home wins over Scotland and Italy.

The 2024 World Rugby U20 Championship promises to be an exciting event, and the Wales U20 squad will be eager to make their mark on the international stage.
