Leicester Tigers Bolster Backroom Staff with Dual Appointments

Leicester Tigers have announced two significant backroom additions, securing the services of Peter Hewat as their new attack coach and welcoming back former prop Matt Parr as the club’s head of athletic performance.

Peter Hewat Joins as Attack Coach

Hewat, who rose to prominence during his time with the Waratahs in Super Rugby, further cemented his reputation during a successful spell with Premiership side London Irish. The 46-year-old concluded his playing career at Suntory Sungoliath in Japan before transitioning into coaching, and he now reunites with current Tigers head coach Dan McKellar, with whom he previously worked at the Brumbies, helping the team to the Super Rugby AU title.

“I’m excited to be joining Leicester Tigers,” said Hewat. “Having played in the Premiership previously, and having experienced the incredible atmosphere at Mattioli Woods Welford Road, I have an understanding of the history and expectations of the club, and I’m determined to help achieve success here. This is a world-renowned team, and I’m looking forward to working with Dan and the rest of the coaching group to help the team reach its goals and grow our attack.”

Matt Parr Returns as Head of Athletic Performance

The Premiership giants have also secured the return of former prop and staff member Matt Parr, who will take up the position of head of athletic performance. Parr, who has previous experience with Sale Sharks, Saracens, and London Irish, was part of Leicester’s strength and conditioning team during the 2015/16 season and has now decided to rejoin the club, having spent the 2022 season with rugby league outfit Catalan Dragons.

“This is a very special opportunity for me,” said Parr. “I’m thankful to Catalan Dragons for my time there, and I’m very excited to bring the knowledge and experience I’ve gained back to Tigers. The club means a lot to me, and I’ll drive through the gates at Oval Park ready to get stuck into pre-season to prepare the players for the upcoming season.”

The additions of Hewat and Parr to Leicester Tigers’ backroom staff represent a significant boost as the club aims to continue its successful run in the bbc sport rugby union and rugby union news landscapes, with a focus on improving their gameplay and overall performance in the upcoming rugby union season.
