The rugby league community was abuzz this weekend as the Betfred Men’s and Women’s Challenge Cup semi-finals took place, setting the stage for a thrilling finals showdown at Wembley Stadium on June 8th.

Betfred Women’s Challenge Cup

In the Betfred Women’s Challenge Cup, St Helens Women made history by becoming the first team to book their place in the final. A strong and patient Saints outfit ran in six sensational tries to defeat York Valkyrie, sealing their return to Wembley for a second consecutive year. Captain Jodie Cunningham was the star of the show, emerging as the side’s top tackler with 32 tackles and the game’s top metre maker with 192 metres. Cunningham also contributed two try assists, while Leah Burke and Pheobe Hook scored tries to kick-start and finish the impressive victory.

Betfred Men’s Challenge Cup

Wigan Warriors continued their dominant form in the men’s competition, ensuring a confident victory over Hull KR to book their place in the Challenge Cup Final. Powerhouse prop Luke Thompson was a standout performer, making a mammoth 36 tackles and leading the Warriors in runs and metres with the ball. Bevan French also put in a huge defensive shift, complementing his trademark creative brilliance that helped cruise the Warriors to the semi-final win.

Over in St Helens, the Leeds Rhinos Women fought hard against Wigan Warriors Women to reach Wembley for the second consecutive year. Ruby Enright was the star of the show, earning Player of the Match for a phenomenal performance that included a try in each half and 127 metres gained. Caitlin Beevers also impressed with a try and a staggering 247 metres, while Wigan’s Grace Banks scored a superb solo try.

Warrington Wolves then ensured their spot in the Challenge Cup Final with a strong win over Huddersfield Giants. Magical Matt Dufty continued his fine form with a breathtaking 213 metres, two tries and two try assists, while Matty Ashton also racked up over 200 metres and a try.
