Clubs Prepare for 2025 with Player Recruitment and Quota Challenges
Clubs are already turning their attention to recruitment for the 2025 season, making the current quota situation of every Super League club increasingly intriguing. With most clubs maxed out at the permitted seven overseas players, the player movement in the coming months will be closely watched.
Castleford Tigers have filled their quota, bringing in Lebanon international Elie El-Zakhem and the Papua New Guinea duo of Nixon Putt and Sylvester Namo for the new season. They also replaced Albert Vete with Tex Hoy mid-season.
The Grand Finalists, Catalans Dragons, have brought in three new NRL signings – Tariq Sims, Jayden Nikorima and Bayley Sironen – as well as prop Chris Satae from Hull FC. Tonga’s Siosiua Taukeiaho has opted to stay with the club.
Huddersfield Giants have filled their quota spots with the signings of forward Jack Murchie and half-back Adam Clune from the NRL.
Hull FC, on the other hand, have two quota spots still available, with Fa’amanu Brown already departing and Tex Hoy joining Castleford. One of the spots will be taken by John Asiata in 2025.
Hull KR have made four new overseas signings in Peta Hiku, Tyrone May, Jai Whitbread and Kelepi Tanginoa for the upcoming season.
The Leeds Rhinos enjoyed a heavy recruitment drive, bringing in Lachie Miller, Matt Frawley and Paul Momirovski from the NRL, as well as Salford duo Brodie Croft and Andy Ackers.
Leigh Leopards are also full on quota space for 2024, having signed former Australia international half-back Matt Moylan. However, they could see significant turnover with the departures of captain John Asiata and others.
The London Broncos have one quota spot remaining, having signed Rhys Kennedy and Jack Campagnolo.
Salford Red Devils filled their final quota spot with the signing of former Wests Tigers winger David Nofoaluma, but he could now leave, making way for Loghan Lewis from the NRL.
St Helens are also full on quota space after signing Fiji international Waqa Blake for the 2024 season.
Warrington Wolves have one quota space available following the release of Sam Kasiano, having brought in Lachlan Fitzgibbon, Zane Musgrove and Rodrick Tai.
Wigan Warriors’ quota spots are currently full, with the signing of Adam Keighran from Catalans replacing Toby King.
As the 2025 season approaches, the player movement and quota management strategies of these Super League clubs will be closely followed by rugby league enthusiasts.
