The Super League disciplinary process for Round Fourteen has been finalized, with a total of four charges and two bans issued. However, the red-carded Andre Savelio of Huddersfield Giants has managed to avoid any further punishment, as revealed by the league’s Match Review Panel (MRP).
Savelio, who was making his long-awaited debut for the Giants after signing from Hull FC, found himself sent off in the 70th minute of his side’s 32-6 defeat against Hull KR. According to Huddersfield coach Ian Watson, the incident involved a confrontation with Hull KR’s Elliot Minchella, which then saw Mikey Lewis become involved.
“The opponent confronts player who is off balance and opponent ends up in a dangerous position.”
While Savelio avoided a ban, two London Broncos players – Rhys Kennedy and Ethan Natoli – were both handed one-match suspensions for dangerous contact charges. Additionally, Castleford Tigers’ Cain Robb and Jacob Miller received £250 fines for head contact offenses.
The MRP stated that Savelio’s sending-off was sufficient, explaining that the “opponent confronts player who is off balance and opponent ends up in a dangerous position.” This assessment resulted in no further action being taken against the Huddersfield forward.
The Super League disciplinary process continues to play a significant role in the league, with teams and players needing to be mindful of maintaining discipline on the field. As the season progresses, rugby league enthusiasts will be closely following the latest updates on disciplinary rulings and their impact on the competition.
