Hull FC Youth Head Departs as Club Continues Overhaul Ahead of 2025 Season
In a major shakeup at Hull FC, the club has confirmed that Head of Youth Pete Riding has departed by mutual consent, as the Black and Whites restructure their organization leading into the 2025 season.
It’s been a tumultuous campaign on the field for Hull FC, with the dismissal of head coach Tony Smith and the arrival of new boss John Cartwright from the Brisbane Broncos on a three-year deal. The club’s newly-appointed Director of Rugby, Richie Myler, oversaw Cartwright’s recruitment, while there has also been a change in the Chief Executive role with James Clark leaving the organization.
Riding’s exit marks the latest high-profile departure, with the Head of Youth departing after a two-and-a-half-year stint leading the club’s youth development program. During his tenure, Riding restructured the pathway, expanding it to feature 13 individual teams and hundreds of young players.
“The strengthened youth setup will serve as a foundation for its future success and sustained growth.”

In the club’s official statement, Riding expressed his belief that the strengthened youth setup will serve as a “foundation for its future success and sustained growth.” He also cited Myler’s vision for the youth program as a key factor in his decision to hand over the reins.
Chairman Adam Pearson praised Riding’s efforts in “re-energizing and restructuring” the youth pathway, ensuring that Hull FC is “resourced and well-managed to take his blueprint forward.” The club is committed to building on Riding’s work and continuing to produce the next generation of Super League talent.
The news of Riding’s departure comes on a tumultuous day for Hull FC, which also saw the club announce the release of new signing Treigh Stewart following allegations of domestic abuse.
As the rugby league season approaches, Hull FC will be looking to their revamped structure, including the new leadership of Cartwright and Myler, to guide the club back to success on the field. The club’s youth academy, shaped by Riding’s tenure, will be integral to their long-term plans.
