Wigan Warriors Set to Miss Key Player Jai Field Due to Hamstring Injury
Wigan, May 4, 2023 – In a setback for the Wigan Warriors, star full-back Jai Field is expected to be sidelined for several weeks due to a hamstring injury sustained during the team’s Challenge Cup final triumph. Warriors head coach Matt Peet confirmed the news in his pre-match press conference ahead of Friday’s Round 14 Super League clash against Castleford Tigers.
Field played the entire 80 minutes in Wigan’s 18-8 victory over Warrington Wolves at Wembley last Saturday, but Peet revealed that the Australian had picked up the injury early in the game and had to play through the pain barrier.
“Jai’s pulled his hamstring, he pulled his hamstring very early on in that game,” Peet said. “We were aware of it, and we know just how brave he played during that game – he played through the pain barrier.”
This is not the first time Field has had to deal with a hamstring issue. The 25-year-old missed five months at the start of his Wigan career in 2021 after suffering a similar problem on his debut against Leigh Leopards.
With Field ruled out of Friday’s trip to Castleford, the Warriors will be without one of their key players as they look to build on their impressive Challenge Cup success. Peet’s side will be hoping the talented full-back can make a swift recovery and return to action as soon as possible.
The news of Field’s injury setback will undoubtedly be a disappointment for Wigan fans, who have seen the player’s impact both in attack and defense since his arrival at the club. The Warriors will now need to find a suitable replacement to fill the void left by the absence of their star man.
