Rugby League Rivals Warrington and Wigan Await Disciplinary Verdicts After Heated Clash
The highly anticipated “dress rehearsal” for the upcoming Rugby League Challenge Cup final between Warrington Wolves and Wigan Warriors provided little insight into how the title decider might unfold. Instead, both sides now anxiously await the Match Review Panel’s disciplinary verdicts following a feisty Super League encounter at the Halliwell Jones Stadium, which Wigan edged 19-18.
Several players from each team were guilty of offenses during Saturday’s clash, with some being penalized by referee Jack Smith and his officiating team, while others went unpunished. Nonetheless, the Match Review Panel will leave no stone unturned, and a number of individuals now face the possibility of missing out on the Wembley showpiece next weekend.
Potential Suspensions on the Horizon
“Wigan’s Tyler Dupree appears to have the most clear-cut case for a potential suspension, with footage emerging on social media showing the prop headbutting former teammate Sam Powell in a first-half fracas.”
Meanwhile, teammate Adam Keighran was sent off for a forearm smash on Arron Lindop and is almost certain to miss the final.
Elsewhere, Warrington’s Zane Musgrove could be in trouble for a push on a Wigan player, while Wigan’s Junior Nsemba and Brad O’Neill may also face scrutiny for high tackles. Rodrick Tai of the Warrington Wolves is another player who could be sanctioned for a high shot on Zach Eckersley.
As the rugby league world eagerly awaits the Match Review Panel’s decisions, both Warrington and Wigan will be nervously hoping to have their full squads available for the much-anticipated Challenge Cup final at Wembley Stadium.
