Waratahs Aim to Avoid Rugby’s Wooden Spoon in Thrilling Season Finale

As the rugby union season reaches its climax, both the Waratahs and the Force will be eager to end their campaigns on a high note, with the Waratahs aiming to avoid the wooden spoon and the Force chasing a coveted finals spot.

Waratahs Aim to Avoid Wooden Spoon in Final Matches

After succumbing to Moana on the road, the New South Wales Waratahs are determined to finish their season on a high note by hosting the Queensland Reds. Waratahs coach Darren Coleman emphasized their commitment to avoid the dreaded wooden spoon, stating,

“No-one wants that wooden spoon, so we’ll be busting our arse to finish with two more wins and perform better than we did (against the Force).”

However, the Waratahs’ injury woes continue to plague them, with prop Lewis Ponini’s status for the final two matches in doubt after limping off against the Force. While the Waratahs face an uphill battle, the Western Force are daring to dream of a potential finals berth, having secured back-to-back victories for the first time this season.

Western Force’s Newfound Confidence

The Force currently sit just two points behind the eighth-placed Fijian Drua, but they face a challenging run-in, with away and home fixtures against the Reds and Brumbies, respectively. Force captain Jeremy Williams expressed his team’s newfound confidence, saying,

“Something we spoke about as a forward group is that all year we haven’t had a back-to-back win, so that gives us confidence.”

However, he cautioned,

“But we won’t be celebrating too long. We know the position we’re in, and we move on to the Reds.”
