The Catalans Dragons have been linked with a potential move for wingers Dallin Watene-Zelezniak and Daniel Tupou, but no official announcements have been made. According to reports from Australia, a Papua New Guinea international could be on the verge of leaving the NRL behind and making the switch to Super League for the 2025 season.
Jack de Belin’s Potential Move to Super League
Jack de Belin, a one-club man with St George Illawarra since his debut in 2011, has made 214 appearances and scored 16 tries during his distinguished career. With his contract set to expire at the end of the current season, the Daily Telegraph reports that de Belin may leave the NRL to join a Super League side.
The Telegraph article states that de Belin has not yet been offered a new deal by St George Illawarra, and as a result, Super League clubs have been alerted to his availability and are preparing offers for the PNG international. At 33 years old, this may be de Belin’s last opportunity to make the move to play in the Super League.
De Belin has represented New South Wales at the State of Origin level, making three appearances in the 2018 series. He has also earned three caps for Papua New Guinea, qualifying through his grandmother. His career was briefly disrupted by an allegation of sexual assault, but all charges were dropped in May 2021, allowing him to resume his career with the Dragons.
With his ability to play both prop and loose forward, de Belin would be a logical replacement for players like John Asiata at the Leigh Leopards or could bolster the Leeds pack, which lacks size. Hull FC, led by Richie Myler, may also be interested in adding de Belin’s quality and experience to their roster for the 2025 season.
Given his physicality, direct running style, and wealth of experience, the Super League seems the perfect destination for a player like de Belin, who is showing no signs of slowing down in the latter stages of his career.
