Midseason Super League ‘Dream Team’ Revealed
As the Super League season reaches the midpoint, it’s an opportune time to assess the ‘Dream Team’ of the season so far. While several teams have standout performers, the current top-eight squads dominate the selections, with the exception of the in-form, but inconsistent, Catalans Dragons.
Backline Brilliance
Warrington Wolves’ Matt Dufty claims the full-back berth, showcasing his attacking prowess with an average of 197 meters and 21 try contributions per game. On the wings, Leeds Rhinos’ Ash Handley and Wigan Warriors’ Liam Marshall have been devastating, with the former’s early-season try-scoring exploits and the latter leading the league in clean breaks and impressive meter averages.
In the centers, Salford Red Devils’ Nene Macdonald and Huddersfield Giants’ Esan Marsters have been standouts, with Macdonald making the second-most meters in Super League and Marsters creating 11 tries for his side. The halves are led by Hull KR’s Mikey Lewis, who tops the charts for try contributions, and Salford’s reliable playmaker, Marc Sneyd, who has the most try assists and kicking metrics in the competition.
Forward Firepower
Warrington’s Danny Walker earns the hooker spot, contributing strongly around the ruck with his tackle efficiency and marker tackles. The prop positions are filled by Hull FC’s powerful Herman Ese’ese and Wigan’s consistent engine, Luke Thompson. In the second row, Salford’s captain Kallum Watkins and St Helens’ James Bell have been influential, while Hull KR’s Elliot Minchella’s tireless work at loose forward completes the team.
“This selection showcases the depth of talent across Super League, with several teams represented and individuals shining despite their sides’ varying fortunes. As the season progresses, the race for playoff positions and individual accolades promises to intensify, ensuring more standout performances in the weeks to come.”
