The Premier Centre Pairings in the 2024 Super League Season
As the 2024 Super League season approaches its halfway point, several outstanding individual displays have headlined the competition. Among the various positions where talent has shone consistently, the centre role stands out as a true showcase of excellence.
A number of centres have excelled throughout the year, prompting the question – which club boasts the premier centre pairing? After careful consideration of factors like squad numbers, playing time, form, and likelihood of being the first-choice duo for the remainder of the season, we’ve ranked every Super League club’s starting centre pairing.
Bottom of the Pile
Starting at the bottom, the London Broncos’ pairing of Jarred Bassett and Hakim Miloudi have had their moments, but their performances have aligned with the club’s struggles this term. Castleford Tigers’ Corey Hall and Sam Wood occupy the 11th spot, as the Tigers have tried various options at centre, with this duo emerging as the likely starters.
Midfield Contenders
Hull FC’s Carlos Tuimavave and Liam Sutcliffe sit at 10th, with Tuimavave’s recent return from injury providing a much-needed boost for the Black and Whites. Leeds Rhinos’ Harry Newman and Paul Momirovski are 9th, as the talented Newman looks to rediscover his best form.
The 8th-placed pairing of Matt Ikuvalu and Arthur Romano from the Catalans Dragons have faced some challenges, mirroring the team’s recent dip in form. Leigh Leopards’ Zak Hardaker and Ricky Leutele, ranked 7th, are regaining their impressive 2023 form, crucial for the Leopards’ play-off push.
Top Contenders
Huddersfield Giants’ Kevin Naiqama and Esan Marsters, ranked 6th, have both had standout periods, with Marsters earning a move to Salford Red Devils in 2025. Warrington Wolves’ Rodrick Tai and Toby King, in 5th, have combined well, with King flourishing under the guidance of coach Sam Burgess.
The top four pairings are all exceptional, starting with 4th-placed Konrad Hurrell and Mark Percival of St Helens. In 3rd are Hull KR’s Peta Hiku and Tom Opacic, who have been crucial to the Robins’ title challenge. Wigan Warriors’ Jake Wardle and Adam Keighran occupy 2nd, with Wardle’s magnificent form leading the way.
The Best of the Best
Topping the list are Salford Red Devils’ Nene MacDonald and Tim Lafai, who have been simply outstanding. With the potential addition of Esan Marsters, Salford could boast an enviable trio of the best centres in Super League.
