Super League Clubs Reveal Estimated Spending on Player Salaries in 2024

In the lead-up to the Friday night clash between Leeds Rhinos and Warrington Wolves, Sky Sports’ rugby league expert Brian Carney has shared the estimated salary spends of all 12 Super League clubs for the 2024 season.

According to the broadcaster’s research, reigning champions Wigan Warriors have the highest player wage bill, estimated at £3.1 million, making them the only club to exceed the £3 million mark.

Closely behind the Warriors are two other clubs – Catalans Dragons and Warrington Wolves – both estimated to be spending £3 million on player salaries.

Further down the table, Leeds Rhinos, Huddersfield Giants, and St Helens are each estimated to be spending £2.7 million, while Hull KR have a £2.4 million budget and Leigh Leopards are on £2.2 million.

At the lower end of the spectrum, Hull FC are spending £1.8 million, with Castleford Tigers and Salford Red Devils both on £1.7 million. London Broncos, unsurprisingly, have the smallest player wage bill at £1.4 million.

“The salary cap for the 2024 Super League season remains at £2.1 million, but clubs can exceed this through various loopholes, including the marquee player rule. This allows teams to have three marquee players, with varying salary cap impacts depending on their training background.”

The figures provided by Sky Sports offer an intriguing insight into how the 12 clubs are prioritizing their spending and the challenges they face in staying within the salary cap regulations.
