Rugby League Roundup: Huddersfield Giants Struggle at Home

In the latest round of the Super League action, the Huddersfield Giants suffered a 16-10 defeat against the Leigh Leopards at the John Smith’s Stadium on Friday night. Despite their earlier success in the Challenge Cup, the Giants have yet to taste victory at home in the league this season.

The visitors took a commanding 14-0 lead at the break, courtesy of tries from winger Josh Charnley and Papua New Guinean team-mate Edwin Ipape, along with a penalty from Matt Moylan. The Giants managed to pull a try back through Sam Hewitt early in the second half, taking advantage of yellow cards shown to Leigh’s Ed Chamberlain and Frankie Halton. However, Moylan’s further penalty extended the Leopards’ lead to 12 points.

“Kevin Naiqama’s late try helped the Giants reduce the deficit, but they were unable to make their numerical advantage count in the dying moments as the game ended 16-10 in favor of Leigh.”

With this result, Huddersfield Giants remain the only side in the Super League without a home win this year, having lost five consecutive matches across all competitions.

The latest Super League home record rankings show the Giants firmly rooted to the bottom of the table, with a dismal 0% points percentage from their 10 home games so far in 2024. London Broncos, Hull FC, and Leigh Leopards complete the bottom four, while Catalans Dragons and Wigan Warriors lead the way with a perfect 100% home record.

As the season progresses, the Huddersfield Giants will be desperately seeking to turn their fortunes around at the John Smith’s Stadium and secure their first home victory of the campaign.
