Springboks Prepare for Epic Ireland Series with Experienced Squad
The highly anticipated rugby union series between the Springboks and Ireland in South Africa is rapidly approaching, and following Rassie Erasmus’ squad announcement, we take a look at the predicted matchday 23 for the Boks.
Three players who featured in the Rugby World Cup final victory over New Zealand last year have been ruled out of the series, meaning there will be some changes to the experienced Springbok squad. However, it is expected that Erasmus will back a battle-tested team against the world’s second-ranked side, Ireland, featuring many of the stars that lifted the trophy in France.
Among the key selections, the versatile Willie le Roux is set to start at fullback, with the in-form Kurt-Lee Arendse and the dynamic Cheslin Kolbe lining up on the wings. In the centers, Damian de Allende and Jesse Kriel are predicted to form a powerful midfield partnership.
At flyhalf, Handre Pollard is expected to steer the Springboks’ backline, with the experienced Faf de Klerk providing his services at scrumhalf. In the forwards, the experienced duo of Siya Kolisi and Pieter-Steph du Toit will lead the charge in the back row, while the towering locks Eben Etzebeth and Franco Mostert anchor the set-piece.
Up front, the Springboks’ scrum will be bolstered by the presence of tighthead Frans Malherbe and loosehead Ox Nche, with the hooking duties shared between Malcolm Marx and Bongi Mbonambi.
“This Springbok squad, packed with Rugby World Cup winners and seasoned internationals, will be tasked with facing an Ireland team that has consistently been ranked among the world’s best in recent years. The series promises to be a thrilling showcase of rugby union gameplay and will undoubtedly captivate rugby union fans across the globe.”
