Seasoned Rugby League Star Esan Marsters Faces Injury Setback Ahead of Salford Red Devils Move
Huddersfield, XX April 2023 – Huddersfield Giants’ prized recruit Esan Marsters may have limited opportunities to showcase his skills in the Super League before his scheduled move to Salford Red Devils, as he faces a significant injury concern.
The Cook Islands and New Zealand representative has been a standout performer for the Giants this season, featuring in all but one game and scoring six tries, despite his team’s underwhelming campaign under head coach Ian Watson. However, the Giants have now received a fresh blow, with Watson revealing that Marsters faces an extended spell on the sidelines.
“Esan is out for a fair while,” Watson said in a press conference. “It could be up to eight weeks, but it depends on how it heals. He’s done a meniscus and MCL-type injury. He did it in the game and tried to continue on, but got a knock and couldn’t get back up from that.”
The news of Marsters’ impending move to Salford Red Devils on a three-year deal had already been a significant setback for the Giants, who were hoping to retain the services of one of Super League’s top centres. Now, his injury is set to further limit his opportunities to impress before his departure, as the Giants continue their push for a playoff spot.
In addition to Marsters, the Giants are also without Ashton Golding, Sam Hewitt, and Adam Swift, as Watson faces a selection headache ahead of their upcoming fixtures. Despite an impressive second-half display in their recent defeat to Catalans, the Giants’ slim playoff hopes have now dwindled even further.
As the season reaches its crucial stage, the Huddersfield Giants will be hoping for a speedy recovery from Marsters, as they aim to maintain their position in the Super League standings before he embarks on his new challenge with the Salford Red Devils.
