Leigh Leopards Primed for Strong Finish with Key Players Returning
As the rugby league season resumes after the mid-season break, Leigh Leopards are set to welcome back several of their star players, potentially boosting their chances of making the playoffs. According to head coach Adrian Lam, the club will be bolstered by the returns of captain John Asiata, forward Robbie Mulhern, and full-back Gaz O’Brien.
Leigh Leopards had a slow start to the season, winning just one of their opening seven games. However, they now find themselves just seven points shy of the sixth-placed team, keeping their playoff hopes alive. The squad’s health has also been a concern, with Lam revealing that the extended break allowed prop Tom Amone to complete the “return to play” protocol after failing a Head Injury Assessment (HIA) against Leeds Rhinos.
Lam acknowledged that the returning players may lack match fitness, having not seen game time in the first half of the season. Nevertheless, he expressed optimism about the squad’s depth and their readiness to face the challenges ahead.
Crucial Test against Wigan Warriors
The Leigh Leopards’ clash against the Wigan Warriors at the DW Stadium on Friday night will be a crucial test. Wigan, who are unbeaten at home this year, will pose a formidable challenge for the visiting Leopards. However, with Asiata, Mulhern, and O’Brien set to return, Lam believes his team has the potential to secure a vital victory.
“The rugby league community will be closely following the Leigh Leopards’ progress as they aim to secure a playoff spot. With the return of their key players, the Leopards are well-positioned to make a strong push in the second half of the season.”
