Hull KR Reclaim Top Spot in Super League with Convincing Win over Castleford Tigers

The Hull KR Robins have returned to the summit of the Super League table following a commanding 36-6 victory over the Castleford Tigers at the Sewell Group Craven Park.

It was the Tigers who opened the scoring through Alex Mellor, but the Robins responded with four unanswered tries from Peta Hiku, Joe Burgess, Mikey Lewis and Ryan Hall to take an 18-6 lead at halftime. In the second half, Burgess, Niall Evalds and Tyrone May added further scores to secure a comfortable 36-6 triumph for the home side.

“The win strengthens Hull KR’s grip on a top-two finish, ensuring they will host a semi-final in the upcoming playoffs. The Robins now sit atop the Super League table, though Wigan Warriors could reclaim the lead with a win over Leeds Rhinos on Saturday.”

With a 18-point haul from a possible 22 at Craven Park, the Robins have established the second-best home record in the league, trailing only the reigning champions Wigan. This form has made the ground a true ‘fortress’ for Willie Peters’ men, who will be a daunting prospect for any team to face there in the postseason.

Veteran winger Ryan Hall also achieved a notable milestone, surpassing Garry Schofield to become the 20th all-time leading try-scorer in British rugby league history, with 331 career tries to his name.

Peta Hiku was the standout performer for Hull KR, racking up 149 metres, two clean breaks, six tackle busts and a try, while also making an impressive 16 tackles. The New Zealand international has flourished since moving to his natural centre position.

The statistics highlight the Robins’ dominance, with the home side running for 600 more metres than Castleford and registering 55 tackle busts compared to the Tigers’ 21. While the game was not the tidiest, it proved to be a thoroughly entertaining affair.

Castleford, who have lost their last three matches, will now focus on finishing the season strongly and building towards 2025. Despite their recent slump, the Tigers have made significant progress under Craig Lingard and will be eager to pick up more points in their remaining six games.
