Gloucester Rugby Bids Farewell to Standout Players Ahead of Season Finale
As Gloucester Rugby looks to add the EPCR Challenge Cup to their recent Premiership Rugby Cup triumph, the club has announced the departure of seven players at the end of the current season. This includes five senior team stalwarts and two from the senior academy.
The Cherry and Whites will welcome Newcastle Falcons to Kingsholm this Saturday, which will serve as the final home outing of the season. Fans will have the chance to bid farewell to several departing players, including the legendary Jonny May.
May, a true club icon, departs Gloucester after nearly 200 appearances across two spells. The academy graduate leaves as one of the most prolific finishers in the sport, having scored 73 tries for the club. Director of Rugby George Skivington described May as a ‘true club legend’ in his announcement earlier this week.
Another notable departure is that of fly-half Adam Hastings, who will re-join his native Glasgow Warriors in the off-season. Despite struggling with injury, Hastings’ contributions on the field were undeniable, with several moments of magic that will be fondly remembered by Gloucester fans.
“Jonny May is a true club legend, and we wish him all the best in the future.” – George Skivington, Director of Rugby
Santi Socino, the former Newcastle man, will sign off his time at Gloucester against his former club at Kingsholm before heading to France to join Agen. The popular Argentinian has been a beloved figure amongst players and supporters alike.
Other senior players departing include prop Harry Elrington, who joined Gloucester from London Irish in 2021 and made 59 appearances, and Alex Hearle, who was picked up from Worcester Warriors last season and will be joining the Falcons ahead of the next campaign.
In addition to the five senior players, the club will also see the departures of Rob Nixon and Will Gilderson from the senior academy.
As Gloucester prepares for the Challenge Cup final against the Sharks next week, the team and its supporters will take the time to celebrate the contributions of these departing players and wish them well in their future endeavors.
