Wigan Warriors Star Bevan French Dominates Lance Todd Trophy
In a landslide victory, Wigan Warriors superstar Bevan French received nearly three-quarters of the votes for this year’s prestigious Lance Todd Trophy. The talented half-back is the first Australian to win the award since 1985, and the second successive overseas player to claim the honor, following Papua New Guinea international Lachlan Lam’s triumph last year.
Out of the 34 registered votes from the assembled media at Wembley Stadium, French secured an impressive 25 votes. His outstanding performance on the day played a pivotal role in Wigan’s Challenge Cup triumph, their first since 2013.
French scored a stunning first-half try and was influential in almost every aspect of the Warriors’ play, as Matt Peet’s side became the first team in 17 years to hold all four domestic trophies simultaneously.
While French was the clear winner, several of his Wigan teammates also received recognition. Captain Liam Farrell and half-back Harry Smith each earned three votes, while forward Kaide Ellis secured two votes and fullback Jai Field received one.
The Lance Todd Trophy is one of the most coveted individual awards in the sport, with French’s name now etched alongside the illustrious list of half-backs who have won this prestigious accolade.
