Rugby League Enthusiast Takes Centre Stage as Tex Hoy Shines on Castleford Tigers Debut
Castleford, UK – The rugby league world was captivated by Tex Hoy’s standout performance in his Castleford Tigers debut against London Broncos on Friday night. The Aussie full-back, who recently departed Hull FC, showcased his undeniable talent with two delightful assists in Castleford’s 40-0 victory.
Hoy, who joined the Tigers on a deal until the end of the 2024 season, admitted he didn’t showcase his abilities often enough during his time at the MKM Stadium. “I’m probably disappointed in myself following my time there – I don’t think I played my best footy at Hull,” the 24-year-old reflected.
Despite the abrupt end to his Hull FC tenure, Hoy holds no ill feelings towards the club. “They went in the direction they thought was best and I wish them well in the future,” he stated. The young playmaker believes Hull are in a “building phase” and expects them to be successful in a couple of years, thanks to the wealth of young talent at the club.
As for his future, Hoy is keeping his options open, acknowledging that his domestic situation with his Australian partner, who has started a business in the UK, will play a role in his decision-making process. “At the moment I’m going week to week and my future will sort itself out,” he said.
Castleford coach Craig Lingard was full of praise for Hoy’s debut display, and the respect between the pair is clearly mutual. “He’s been good this first week, as all the coaches have,” Hoy added. “They’ve just said ‘go out and play your footy’ so I’ll do that for the rest of the year and see where it takes me.”
With Hoy’s impressive performance and promising start at Castleford, rugby league enthusiasts are eagerly anticipating his future contributions to the Tigers’ campaign. The versatile full-back’s fresh start at the Wheldon Road club could be the catalyst he needs to showcase his true potential and cement his place as a key player in the Super League.
