Salford Red Devils Prop Escapes Suspension, Two Super League Players Banned
In a recent development in the world of rugby league, Salford Red Devils prop King Vuniyayawa has avoided a suspension following an incident that led to his sending off during their victory over the London Broncos. Meanwhile, two other Super League players have been handed bans.
Catalans Dragons Duo Facing Disciplinary Action
The Catalans Dragons duo of Michael McIlorum and Mike McMeeken are the two players facing disciplinary action this week. McIlorum has received two one-match bans for separate incidents, including a trip and a dangerous contact charge, both graded as Grade B. As a result, he will miss the Dragons’ next two Super League fixtures.
Additionally, forward McMeeken has also been handed a one-match ban for a Grade B dangerous contact offence against the Hull KR Robins. He will be unavailable for the Catalans this weekend.
Matty Storton Receives Fine, Not Suspension
The other player charged during the Catalans-Robins match was Matty Storton of Hull KR, who was also cited for a Grade B dangerous contact offence. However, he was only given a £250 fine instead of a suspension, owing to his previously clean disciplinary record.
Salford Red Devils Prop Cleared of Wrongdoing
While Salford supporters may have been concerned about the fate of Vuniyayawa following his red card during their victory over the London Broncos, the Match Review Panel has since cleared the prop of any wrongdoing. In their mitigation, the panel stated that Vuniyayawa “lifted one leg of the opponent and walked round with the leg of the opponent but never lifted above the hip,” and that the opponent “was being tackled in the upper body by two of the player’s team mates and was twisted round and landed on his neck and shoulder,” concluding that Vuniyayawa “was not solely responsible for the mechanics of the tackle and cannot be solely attributed to placing the opponent in a dangerous position.“
This news will come as a relief to Salford Red Devils fans, as they retain the services of their prop, while the two Catalans Dragons players face suspensions that will impact their upcoming fixtures.
