Rugby League Triumph for London Broncos at Home
London Broncos have secured a historic first-ever home victory against the Catalans Dragons, breaking a long-standing curse at their Plough Lane stadium. This hard-fought 12-10 triumph marked the Broncos’ first home success over the French outfit in over 14 years.
The capital club had previously faced the Dragons on 12 occasions at five different venues, including the Twickenham Stoop, Molesey Road, The Hive, and Ealing Trailfinders, with their only previous home victories coming during their time as Harlequins RL.
However, Sunday’s clash saw the Broncos, who had adopted the ‘Broncos’ tagline in 2012, finally overcome the ‘Catalans curse’ at their current Plough Lane home. This result is particularly significant as the Dragons had comfortably beaten the Broncos 34-0 when the two teams met earlier in the season.
Loanee Jacob Jones scored the only try of the first half, with Oli Leyland’s conversion giving the Broncos a 6-0 lead at the break. Jarrod Wallace then leveled the scores for the Dragons, but Jarred Bassett’s try, again converted by Leyland, proved to be the decisive factor.
Despite a late score from Fouad Yaha for the visitors, the Broncos held on to secure a hard-fought 12-10 victory, their first home win against the Catalans since Valentine’s Day 2010 when they were still known as Harlequins RL.
This historic result will be celebrated by the Broncos faithful, who have witnessed their team overcome a long-standing hoodoo against the Dragons at their Plough Lane home.
