Warrington Wolves Winger Rodrick Tai Set to Depart Super League Club
Warrington Wolves center Rodrick Tai is expected to leave the Super League club at the conclusion of the current season. Tai joined the Wolves at the end of 2023 on a one-year deal with an option for the club to extend his stay for another year. However, Love Rugby League has learned that the Wolves have decided not to exercise that option, meaning the versatile outside back will depart the Wire at the end of this year.
The 25-year-old Tai, who can also cover the wing and second-row positions, has made seven appearances in Super League in 2024, scoring two tries. This season, he has averaged 14.1 carries, 107.2 meters, 1.8 tackle busts, and 12.2 tackles per game. Tai, who featured in the centres during the Challenge Cup final loss to Wigan at Wembley last month, is also a Papua New Guinea international, having been part of the 2021 World Cup squad and scoring twice in six Tests for the Kumuls.
“With the likes of Toby King, Stefan Ratchford, and promising youngsters Wesley Bruines and Zac Barsley-Rowe available in the centre positions, the Warrington Wolves appear well-stocked in that area. King is a regular for the England national team, while Ratchford has recently agreed to a new deal to stay with the Wolves in 2025, as revealed by Love Rugby League earlier this year.”
In addition to Tai’s impending departure, the Super League club is also expected to see off-contract players Josh Drinkwater, Matty Russell, and Gil Dudson leave at the end of this season, along with NRL-bound forward Matty Nicholson. However, the Wolves will be boosting their squad with the arrival of Huddersfield back-rower Luke Yates, as previously reported by Love Rugby League.
