Seasoned Flanker Dan Thomas Bids Farewell to Bristol Bears, Joins Cardiff Ahead of 2024-25 Season
(March 25, 2023 – Leicester, England) – Flanker Dan Thomas, a seven-year veteran of the Bristol Bears, has decided to part ways with the club, opting to join Cardiff ahead of the 2024-25 season, as reported by BBC Rugby Union.
The 30-year-old Carmarthen-born player made 144 appearances for the Bears during his time at Ashton Gate, but now follows in the footsteps of fellow Welsh international Callum Sheedy, who recently made the move from Bristol to Cardiff Arms Park.
“I am a proud Welshman and to be able to return home to Wales with Cardiff was a big pull in my decision,” Thomas shared on the club’s official website. The opportunity to compete in the United Rugby Championship (URC), with its diverse range of playing styles and environments, also factored into his decision.
Prior to his stint with Bristol, Thomas spent three seasons with Gloucester, showcasing his versatility and experience at the top level of rugby union.
Cardiff head coach Matt Sherratt expressed his enthusiasm about the latest addition to the squad, stating, “I’m really pleased to bring Dan on board ahead of next season and feel he is a really good fit for the club. He suits our attacking playing style as a fast and dynamic openside, who is effective on both sides of the ball and has a lot of experience from the Premiership.”
As Bristol Bears bid farewell to their long-serving flanker, Thomas now looks forward to the challenge of competing in the URC and representing his home country of Wales once again.
