Veteran Rugby League Players Tyla Hepi and Adam Lawton Sidelined by Long-Term Injuries
In a disappointing turn of events, former Super League standouts Tyla Hepi and Adam Lawton have both suffered significant injuries that are likely to sideline them for the remainder of the 2024 season.
Tyla Hepi’s Injury Setback
Hepi, the 30-year-old forward who previously represented Hull KR and Castleford Tigers, had joined Championship newcomers Doncaster RLFC ahead of the current campaign. However, the Auckland-born player has now sustained an ACL injury, which will keep him out for the rest of the year. This comes after he had spent 2023 recovering from a previous injury, having last played for Castleford and Featherstone Rovers in 2022.
“Doncaster RLFC has expressed its support for Hepi, stating that the club will do everything it can to aid his recovery and ensure he is not alone on his journey back to full fitness.”
Adam Lawton’s Significant Setback
Likewise, Lawton, a 30-year-old who has played in Super League for both Widnes Vikings and Salford Red Devils, has suffered a significant setback while representing League 1 side Oldham. Lawton had joined the Roughyeds ahead of the current season and had already scored 11 tries in his first 13 appearances. However, he now faces a lengthy spell on the sidelines after breaking a bone in his ankle during last weekend’s defeat to league leaders Keighley Cougars.
“Oldham head coach Sean Long acknowledged the severity of Lawton’s injury, stating that he could potentially be out for the remainder of the year, although the full extent of the damage is yet to be determined.”
These injuries to Hepi and Lawton, both experienced Super League players, are a significant blow to their respective clubs’ ambitions for the 2024 season. Doncaster and Oldham will now have to navigate the challenges of finding suitable replacements and adjusting their strategies to overcome the absence of these key figures.
Rugby league enthusiasts will undoubtedly be disappointed to see these talented veterans sidelined due to long-term injuries, as they have been integral parts of the sport’s landscape for many years. The focus now shifts to their recovery and rehabilitation, with both clubs pledging to support their players through this challenging period.
