Toulouse Prevail in Thrilling Champions Cup Semi-Final Against Harlequins
Toulouse, May 14 – Toulouse withstood a spirited Harlequins comeback to secure a 38-26 victory and book their place in the Investec Champions Cup final against Leinster. The two most successful teams in the competition, with nine titles between them, will face off at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on May 25.
The French giants raced out of the blocks at Le Stadium, taking an early lead through a try from Matthis Lebel. But Harlequins, making their first-ever appearance in the Champions Cup semi-finals, refused to be deterred, striking back through a score from Marcus Smith.
Toulouse flexed their muscle, with tries from Peato Mauvaka and Thibaud Flament restoring their advantage. However, the English side continued to fight, crossing the whitewash through Will Evans and Tyrone Green to keep the match finely poised.
“The experience of Antoine Dupont and his half-back partner Romain Ntamack proved crucial for Toulouse, as the duo orchestrated further tries for Dupont and Juan Cruz Mallia to ultimately seal the victory.”
Despite a valiant effort, Harlequins were unable to reach their first-ever European Cup final. The result sets up a mouthwatering clash between Toulouse and Leinster, the two most successful teams in Champions Cup history, as they battle it out for European glory next month.
