Emoni Narawa, the Breakout Star, Extends Chiefs Contract
Emoni Narawa, the electrifying winger for the Gallagher Chiefs, has re-signed with New Zealand Rugby and the franchise through 2026. The 24-year-old has cemented his status as one of the premier try-scoring threats in the highly competitive Super Rugby Pacific competition.
Narawa’s rise to prominence has been nothing short of remarkable. In his first season as a regular starter for the Waikato-based club, the Fijian-born flyer took the rugby union world by storm, earning a well-deserved All Blacks call-up in 2023. Although his international debut against Argentina was cut short due to injury, Narawa’s resilience shone through as he battled back to reclaim his place in the Chiefs’ lineup.
“It is fantastic that Emoni has recommitted to the Gallagher Chiefs for the next few years,” said Chiefs head coach Clayton McMillan. “He has always had massive potential, and it has been a real pleasure seeing that talent realised over the last few seasons, exemplified by his selection as an All Black in 2023.”
Narawa’s eye-catching performances have continued this season, with the winger crossing the tryline eight times in just seven matches, solidifying his status as one of the rugby union’s most dangerous attacking threats. McMillan praised Narawa’s all-round contributions, both on and off the field.
“Emoni has an unbelievable ability to see space and create opportunities for himself and others. He is a valued team member and a real character who contributes significantly both on and off the field. Many people have contributed to Emoni’s journey, but none more so than his young family. They have given him stability and a real purpose in life, and we are grateful they too will continue to be a part of the Chiefs wh?nau.”
Narawa’s contract extension is a significant boost for the Chiefs, as they look to build on their recent success and challenge for the Super Rugby Pacific title. The explosive winger’s continued presence in the backline, alongside other standout players like Shaun Stevenson and Etene Nanai-Seturo, promises to make the Chiefs one of the most formidable rugby union teams in the competition.
“I’m really blessed and grateful for the opportunity to extend my time with the Chiefs until 2026,” said Narawa. “This club is our family and has definitely helped me become the player that I am today. God is good, excited for what’s to come.”
