Leigh Leopards’ Tom Amone Showcases Remarkable Transformation Under Adrian Lam’s Guidance
Leigh, United Kingdom – Tom Amone’s rapid development during his tenure with the Leigh Leopards has been nothing short of phenomenal, according to his head coach Adrian Lam. The Australia-born powerhouse, who hails from Tongan heritage, joined the Leigh Sports Village ahead of the 2022 season after making 17 appearances in the NRL for South Sydney Rabbitohs and Wests Tigers.
Initial Impact and Transformation
Initially used as an impact substitute by Lam when he first arrived at the then-Championship side, now known as the Leopards, Amone has since blossomed into one of the leading props in Super League. He is renowned for his exceptional work rate in both attack and defense, while also boasting impressive ball-handling skills.
Recent Performances and Injury Comeback
Despite a foot injury that has limited him to four appearances so far this season, Amone is now back to producing some of his best rugby, playing big minutes in the middle. He is averaging an impressive 32 tackles per game, along with 18 carries and 135 meters per match.
Amone’s remarkable rise was highlighted in his recent performance against a physical Catalans Dragons pack, which Lam described as “unbelievable.” The coach praised Amone’s impact, noting that he was the “best player on the field” in Leigh’s 30-2 victory.
“Tom has only been back for a couple of weeks now and has missed a lot of time, so it’s great that he’s finding his feet now,” Lam told Love Rugby League. “Hopefully, as a group and as a team, we will all follow in his footsteps.”
From Bench Player to Super League Dream Team
Amone’s transformation has been nothing short of remarkable, as he has gone from a bench player to a Super League Dream Team member in the span of just two and a half years. Lam attributes this success to instilling belief in the player and helping him understand his own body and talent.
“I think his development in the last two and a half years has been phenomenal,” Lam said. “I thought he deserved one of the front-rowers of the year with the Super League Dream Team last year.”
As the Leigh Leopards continue their push in the rugby league world cup fixtures, the performance and continued growth of Tom Amone will undoubtedly be a key factor in their success, as they look to capitalize on the player’s exceptional talent and sky sports rugby league-worthy performances.
