Stormers Secure Fly-Half Manie Libbok’s Contract Extension Until 2027

The DHL Stormers have retained the services of a crucial playmaker, with fly-half Manie Libbok signing a new deal to remain with the Cape Town-based side until 2027.

After struggling to cement a regular starting role with the Bulls and Sharks earlier in his career, Libbok has flourished at the Stormers, establishing himself as the team’s first-choice fly-half. His impressive performances in the 2022 United Rugby Championship (URC) campaign were instrumental in the Stormers’ title-winning season, earning him international recognition with the Springboks.

Libbok made his Test debut for South Africa against France and cemented his place in the national side, securing selection for the 2023 Rugby World Cup. The playmaker went on to feature in the quarter-finals and semi-finals as the Springboks successfully defended their world title.

“Rejecting lucrative offers from France, Libbok has once again committed his long-term future to the Stormers, a move that will delight the club’s supporters. The 26-year-old’s decision to extend his stay in Cape Town is a significant boost for the side ahead of the 2024/25 season, with several other key players also signing extensions.”

Stormers head coach John Dobson praised Libbok’s decision, describing him as “one of the best players in the world in his position.” Dobson highlighted the fly-half’s seamless integration into the team’s playing style and his leadership qualities within the group.

Libbok has firmly cemented his status as one of the standout performers in the bbc rugby union, rugby union scores, and rugby union news, finishing as the top points scorer in the last two URC seasons. The 2022/23 campaign also saw him crowned the URC Fans’ Player of the Season.

Looking ahead, Libbok expressed his excitement to continue his development at the Stormers, stating that his move to the club had a “big positive impact” on his career and that he is eager to be a part of the team’s continued growth and success.
