Rugby League Results: St Helens Bolster Coaching Staff with Eamon O’Carroll Appointment
St Helens, the prominent rugby league club, have confirmed the addition of Eamon O’Carroll to their coaching staff for the upcoming 2025 season. O’Carroll, who has previously held assistant roles with both Catalans Dragons and Newcastle Thunder, joins the Red V’s revamped coaching team alongside the experienced Lee Briers.
The 37-year-old O’Carroll departs his position as head coach of Championship outfit Bradford Bulls, where he had guided the team to the play-offs. His exit from Odsal was announced last month, with the announcement now revealing his move to the Totally Wicked Stadium.
“I’m really excited and honoured to be joining a club of the stature of St Helens, it’s a huge honour not just for myself but for my family as well,” the Oldham native stated. “I feel refreshed after a couple of weeks off and I’m ready to go, settle and be closer to home and my family at a really good club.”
The incoming assistant coach emphasized his desire to connect with the players and help them develop, while also harboring ambitions of winning trophies with the Super League champions.
O’Carroll’s Playing and Coaching Career
O’Carroll, who enjoyed a playing career spanning over 150 appearances for the likes of Wigan Warriors, Hull FC, and Widnes Vikings, as well as representing Ireland on the international stage, expressed his excitement at the opportunity.
St Helens head coach Paul Wellens lauded O’Carroll’s credentials, citing the positive feedback he had received from those who have worked with the experienced coach in the past. Wellens believes O’Carroll’s “solid knowledge, hunger, passion, and enthusiasm for coaching” will complement the existing coaching team well.
