Springboks Forwards Eyed by Foreign Clubs as Stormers Scrum-Half Attracts Interest
As the 2023/24 rugby union season nears its conclusion, South African clubs are finalizing their transfer dealings, with several high-profile players potentially set to depart the United Rugby Championship (URC) ahead of the 2024/25 campaign.
According to reports, Springboks hooker Joseph Dweba could be leaving the Stormers, with Sale Sharks in England said to be interested in luring the front-rower away from Cape Town. The 28-year-old, who has earned six caps for the Boks since his debut in 2021, is believed to be keen on staying in South Africa, but the English club are reportedly making a second attempt to secure his services.

Meanwhile, Stormers scrum-half Paul de Wet is also attracting interest from French Top 14 clubs, despite having one year remaining on his current contract. The 28-year-old has been a regular starter ahead of Springbok Herschel Jantjies this season and is reportedly weighing up his options for the 2024/25 season, with the Bulls previously reported to have shown interest in his services.
Additionally, Sharks loose forward Sikhumbuzo Notshe is set to join his teammate, Springboks fly-half Curwin Bosch, at French Pro D2 club Brive next season. Notshe, who has earned six Test caps for the Boks, was confirmed as one of the Sharks’ players departing at the end of the current campaign, and it appears he will be plying his trade in France in the 2024/25 season.
These potential player movements come as the Bulls secured the signing of Stormers loose forward Xaba Nama, whose departure from the Cape-based side was announced last week.
The 2023/24 URC season is shaping up to be an eventful one, with several South African players, including World Cup-winning Springboks, potentially seeking opportunities abroad in the upcoming campaign.
