Rugby Union Legend Agustin Creevy Shares Expertise with Spain’s National Team
In a significant boost for Spain’s national rugby union team, former Argentina captain Agustin Creevy has joined their pre-season training camp this week. The 39-year-old stalwart, who won 108 caps for Los Pumas, has been brought in to lend his vast experience and knowledge to the Spanish side as they prepare for upcoming matches against Samoa and Tonga.
Creevy, who recently concluded his one-year stint with Sale Sharks, will be working closely with the Spanish squad for three days, focusing on areas such as the scrum, lineout, and breakdown. This opportunity arose through Creevy’s close friendship with Spain’s head coach, Pablo Bouza, who was eager to leverage the veteran’s expertise.
“I’m happy to be here these three days,” Creevy expressed. “I am a good friend of Pablo Bouza, and he called me to lend a hand in the scrum, and here I am to live the experience. I think that Spain is a team with a lot of determination, that is moving forward and wants to progress with the aim of qualifying for the World Cup. Very similar to Los Pumas a few years ago. I came here to be with them, to give them all my knowledge and to help in the scrum, breakdown and the hookers with the line throws.”
Bouza, who has worked with Creevy for five years, highlighted the former Argentina captain’s humility and ability to effectively communicate his rugby union knowledge.
“The best thing about Agustín is that despite having more than 100 games with Los Pumas, he is a very humble person, with whom you can talk and who transmits very well and is always in a good mood,” Bouza said.
As Spain’s national rugby union team embarks on their Pacific tour, the presence of Agustin Creevy is sure to provide invaluable guidance and inspiration to the squad as they strive to make their mark on the international stage.
