Veteran Leeds Rhinos Forward Rhyse Martin Reaches Milestone with 1,000 Points

Veteran Leeds Rhinos forward Rhyse Martin etched his name into the club’s history books, becoming just the fifth player in the modern era to surpass the 1,000-point milestone in their colors. The Papua New Guinean star, who joined the Rhinos in 2019 following a stint with the Canterbury Bulldogs in the NRL, reached the impressive landmark during Leeds’ hard-fought victory over the London Broncos on Sunday.

Going into the clash at Plough Lane, Martin sat on 986 points for the club, needing 14 more to reach the four-figure tally. The back-rower wasted little time in achieving the feat, scoring two tries and two conversions in the first half to bring up his 1,000th point for the Rhinos.

“Martin’s heroics helped Leeds establish a 14-6 lead at the interval, but the hosts hit back through a try from Emmanuel Waine just before the break to make it a two-point game.”

The Broncos then took the lead in the second half, but Martin once again proved the difference, scoring another try and conversion to put the Rhinos back in front at 20-16. However, the drama wasn’t over, as London leveled the scores at 20-20 with just five minutes remaining. The match went to Golden Point extra time, and it was Leeds who emerged victorious, with Brodie Croft’s one-pointer sealing a 21-20 triumph for the visitors.

Martin’s first four points for the club came on his full debut back in July 2019, and he has since gone on to amass 1,006 points in 129 appearances for the Rhinos. This remarkable achievement sees him join an exclusive club of Leeds legends, including Danny McGuire, Rob Burrow, Iestyn Harris, and the legendary Kevin Sinfield.

As the regular Super League season draws to a close, Martin and the Rhinos will be eager to secure a playoff spot, before the Papua New Guinean forward faces a potential farewell appearance against his future employers, Hull KR, in the final round.
