Premiership Club Sale Sharks Retain Star Playmaker Du Preez, Racing 92 Chase NRL Sensation Manu

In the latest rugby union transfer news and rumors, Sale Sharks have secured a contract extension for versatile back Robert du Preez, while French giants Racing 92 are reportedly pursuing the signature of Sydney Roosters star Joey Manu.

Sale Sharks Retain Du Preez

One-cap Springbok du Preez, 30, has agreed a new multi-year deal to remain at the Premiership outfit, where he has been a talismanic figure since joining on loan in 2018. The fly-half-turned-center has amassed an impressive 134 appearances for Sale, racking up close to 800 points in the process.

“I’m massively excited to be a part of this group for the next two seasons,” said du Preez, whose brothers Jean-Luc and Dan also ply their trade at the Sharks. “I truly believe that with the players we have, we can win something in the next couple of years, and to be a part of that is really exciting.”

Racing 92 Chase Manu

Across town, Top 14 powerhouse Racing 92 have reportedly set their sights on luring Manu away from the NRL. The 27-year-old New Zealand international has signed a short-term deal with Toyota Verblitz in Japan’s Rugby League One, but is expected to command significant interest from rugby union clubs, with a potential move to France in 2025 on the cards.

“Maybe somewhere longer (down the road),” Manu said of a potential Roosters return. “Going to Japan is a good experience for myself and my family. Just enjoying something different.”

Former All Blacks boss Steve Hansen, now at Toyota Verblitz, has drawn comparisons between Manu and fellow code-hopper Sonny Bill Williams, indicating the versatile back has the potential for similar success in rugby union.

Brumbies Secure Hooper Extension

Elsewhere, the Brumbies have secured the services of flanker Tom Hooper, who has signed a contract extension through to the end of 2025. The abrasive loose forward made his Wallabies debut earlier this year and is expected to be a key figure for both Australia and the Canberra-based franchise in the coming years.

“It definitely feels like home for me here and I’m desperate to be part of a successful Brumbies team,” Hooper said of his contract extension.
