Munster Edge Edinburgh in Exhilarating United Rugby Championship Clash
Edinburgh’s hopes of securing a top-eight finish in the BKT United Rugby Championship were dealt a blow as they fell to a narrow 29-26 defeat against high-flying Munster at the Hive Stadium.
The Scottish side got off to a strong start, with fly-half Ben Healy kicking two early penalties to give Edinburgh a 6-0 lead. However, Munster struck back in the 18th minute when Antoine Frisch crossed the line to reduce the deficit.
Edinburgh extended their lead further with a try from centre Mark Bennett, but Munster hit back just before the break through a try from Frisch, leaving the hosts 16-12 ahead at half-time.
The second half was a thrilling affair, with the lead changing hands several times. Munster took the lead for the first time in the 43rd minute through a try from fly-half Jack Crowley, only for Healy to level the scores with a penalty.
Munster regained the lead with a try from Gavin Coombes, but Edinburgh responded immediately with a try from Boan Venter to make it 26-26. However, a late penalty from Crowley proved to be the decisive score in an enthralling encounter.
“The result means that Edinburgh may now need a win away to Benetton in their final match to secure a top-eight finish, while Munster have secured a home quarter-final in the BKT United Rugby Championship.”
