Leigh Leopards Undergo Major Squad Overhaul Ahead of 2025 Season
Leigh, – The Leigh Leopards squad is set to undergo a significant transformation as they transition away from the stars who propelled them back to the Super League. Several key members of the team that won the 2023 Challenge Cup will depart the club before the 2025 season.
The first high-profile exit was confirmed with John Asiata’s move to Hull FC. Reports also suggest that Oliver Holmes and Zak Hardaker will join Asiata in crossing the Pennines. Furthermore, Tom Amone has agreed a contract with the Canterbury Bulldogs in the NRL and will return to Australia.
Other influential players, such as Lachlan Lam, have been linked with potential moves, although nothing has been formally announced as yet. However, the Leopards received a boost when head coach Adrian Lam rejected interest from Hull to sign an extended deal with the club.
Despite this, Lam will have to plan for the departure of another of his star players, as it has been confirmed that Kai O’Donnell will join the North Queensland Cowboys in 2025.
“Kai will add depth and experience to our back row stocks,” said Cowboys General Manager of Football, Michael Luck. “It’s always great to bring a North Queenslander home, and we believe he will be a fantastic addition to our squad for 2025 and beyond.”
Despite the significant squad changes, the Leigh Leopards remain in the hunt for a Super League play-off place. However, their chances were dented by a recent defeat against Hull KR. The Leopards currently occupy ninth place in the table, seven points behind Salford Red Devils in sixth, with a game in hand against the Wigan Warriors. They will need to avoid further slip-ups in the second half of the season.
