Kurtley Beale’s Force Fuels Wallabies Comeback Bid

Kurtley Beale, the experienced Australian rugby union player, has set his sights on earning a Wallabies recall after impressing for the Western Force in the Super Rugby Pacific competition. The 95-cap veteran is determined to use his strong form as a springboard for an international comeback, with the goal of helping the Force reach the play-offs.

Kurtley Beale Eyes Wallabies Recall After Impressive Force Form

Western Force utility back Kurtley Beale has revealed his ambitions to earn a Wallabies recall, stating that helping his Perth-based club reach the Super Rugby Pacific play-offs could be key to achieving that goal. Beale, a 95-cap veteran for Australia, has been in fine form since joining the Force on a short-term deal until the end of the season.

The 35-year-old made his Force debut at full-back in their recent Round Nine victory over the Crusaders and has since maintained the number 15 jersey. Beale’s international career appeared to be over after he was suspended at the start of 2023 due to sexual assault allegations, which he was later cleared of in February.

“It’s definitely a desire,” Beale told AAP. “But I know I’ve just got to keep playing some footy now. I’m doing that here at the Force and trying to have an impact here. Push the team to a final series is my main focus at the moment.”

The Force’s recent 27-7 home victory over the Waratahs has elevated them to ninth in the standings, just two points behind the Fijian Drua, who currently occupy the final quarter-final spot. Beale’s form has not gone unnoticed, with incoming Wallabies boss Joe Schmidt attending the Force’s recent triumph over the Fijian Drua.

While most players have retired from international rugby at Beale’s age, the utility back feels he still has plenty to offer.

“I think being out (for that period) has enabled me to put a lot of focus on my physical and mental wellbeing,” he said. “And being away from the game, it actually made me appreciate the game a lot more, which is really nice.”

Beale is also enjoying his time with the Force and is hopeful of extending his stay at the club beyond the current season.

“It’s a beautiful city, Perth,” he said. “It’s a great club here. Great people within it and everyone’s all wanting to push for success. If things work out, that’d be great. But my focus is just trying to push the team for the final series, and it’s an exciting challenge.”
