Hull FC Aim to Rebuild for 2025 Season with Potential Marquee Signing
Hull FC, a rugby league club that endured a difficult 2024 campaign, have now taken steps to rebuild for the upcoming 2025 season. The appointment of John Cartwright as the new head coach on a three-year deal has signaled a new era for the Black and Whites.
As part of their restructuring efforts, Hull FC have reportedly identified a star half-back to sign, according to Jenna Brooks of Sky Sports. The club is said to be seriously considering the acquisition of Jayden Sullivan from the Wests Tigers, who would command a significant salary of around £180,000 per year.
“This potential signing would be a marquee move for Hull FC, who have already secured the services of John Asiata on a lucrative deal. The Leigh Leopards owner, Derek Beaumont, previously criticized the “crazy” salary paid by Hull FC to Asiata, who is expected to be one of the club’s top earners.”
The pursuit of Jayden Sullivan comes after a challenging start to the 2024 season for Hull FC. The club had initially signed New Zealand hooker Nu Brown to play in the halves, but that experiment was cut short due to compassionate grounds. Brown has since returned to the NRL, leaving Hull FC without an apparent halfback pairing for the 2025 season.
In the interim, the club has brought in Ben Reynolds on loan from their local rivals, Hull KR. However, the search for a long-term solution at the halfback position has now led Hull FC to target the highly-rated Jayden Sullivan from the Wests Tigers.
The reported interest in Sullivan is part of a broader trend, as Wests Tigers CEO Shane Richardson has been in the UK exploring potential player transactions to free up salary cap space. Aside from Hull FC, it is understood that Hull KR are also considering a move for Wests Tigers’ centre or winger, Brent Naden.
As John Cartwright takes the reins at Hull FC, the club’s pursuit of Jayden Sullivan and the potential marquee signing would be a significant step in their efforts to rebuild and position themselves for a stronger 2025 campaign in the rugby league competition.
