Rugby League Legends to Honor Rob Burrow in Emotional Headingley Homecoming

On Friday, Leeds Rhinos will host Leigh Leopards at Headingley in a game that will hold deep significance for the club and its fans. The annual MND Awareness game is set to be an especially poignant occasion, as it marks the first home match since the tragic passing of beloved Rhinos icon Rob Burrow earlier this month at the age of 41.

A host of Burrow’s former teammates, including cult hero Ali Lauitiiti and Australian Andrew Dunemann, who were part of the 2004 Super League Grand Final-winning side, will be in attendance to pay tribute to their friend and colleague. Iconic hooker Danny Buderus, another key figure in Leeds’ success in the 2000s, will also make the trip to England for the game.

“The Rhinos have confirmed that the match is fast heading towards a sell-out, with under 50 seats and under 500 standing tickets left for the South Stand. The club has invited members of the MND community to Headingley to help celebrate Burrow’s life and legacy.”

To further honor their fallen teammate, the Rhinos will wear a special one-off kit designed by Cath Muir, an MND sufferer herself. The kit design was approved by Burrow himself prior to his passing, and the Burrow family has given permission for the players to don the unique jersey on the night.

As the Rhinos prepare for an emotionally charged homecoming, head coach Rohan Smith has promised to do everything in his power to ensure the occasion is a fitting tribute to Rob Burrow, whose impact on the club and the sport of rugby league will be felt for years to come.
