Glasgow Warriors Stun Munster, Eye Bulls Challenge in URC Final
Glasgow Warriors have defied the odds and booked their spot in the United Rugby Championship (URC) final after a shock 17-10 victory over defending champions Munster in the semi-finals. The Scottish side will now face off against the Bulls at Loftus Versfeld in Pretoria on Saturday, ensuring a new champion will be crowned in the inaugural URC season.
Despite being underdogs, Glasgow Warriors head coach Franco Smith expressed his team’s eagerness to take on the formidable Bulls on their home turf. “We didn’t train this hard and work this hard to come up short. We’re going to give it a full go,” he said after the Munster triumph.
The Warriors’ recent league-phase meeting with the Bulls at Loftus Versfeld resulted in a narrow 40-34 defeat, but Smith is confident his side can overcome the challenge. “It is going to be a good challenge. We know that it is going to be challenging but we’ve got a plan and we’ll see how we can recover as quickly as possible and get ourselves physically and mentally ready for an important game.”
While Glasgow were bolstered by standout performances from the likes of Zander Fagerson and Tom Jordan, Smith was keen to emphasize the team effort that propelled them to victory. “If I am going to start mentioning individuals I will name the whole team,” he said, highlighting the contributions of the management, medical staff, and young forward duo Max Williams and Euan Ferrie.
With the final set to take place in Pretoria, the Warriors will need to overcome the challenges of travel and facing the Bulls on their home soil. However, Smith’s side has proven their mettle and will be determined to cap off their impressive URC campaign with a championship triumph.
