Fijian Drua Appoints Glen Jackson as New Head Coach
Assistant Coach to Take Over Top Role at Season’s End
On Monday, the Fijian Drua announced that current assistant coach Glen Jackson will take over as the team’s new head coach at the conclusion of the current Super Rugby Pacific campaign.
The 48-year-old Jackson, who has experience both refereeing and playing at the Super Rugby level, including a stint with Saracens in the Premiership, will replace outgoing head coach Mick Byrne. Byrne is set to assume the top job with the Flying Fijians national team.
“Glen has already made a tremendous contribution to the Drua since our inception in 2022,” said Fijian Drua CEO Mark Evans. “The Board is delighted to appoint Glen to the role after a thorough process. Glen has wonderful ideas which will allow the Fijian Drua to have even greater success moving into the future.”
Jackson, who served as an assistant to Simon Raiwalui during last year’s Rugby World Cup with Fiji, has been praised for his deep knowledge of the Fijian culture and strong relationships with the players, staff, and club. His promotion comes with a three-year contract.
“I am grateful, humbled by the opportunity and the responsibility is not lost on me,” said Jackson. “I have learnt a lot and I am very passionate about the Fijian culture. My time at the Flying Fijians & Drua has shown me how powerful the Fijian culture, community and passion are in moulding good players and good people.”
The Fijian Drua currently sit eighth on the Super Rugby Pacific table, and Jackson is committed to ensuring the team “continues to make a stand in Super Rugby Pacific, grows the game and sets a platform for the next generation” of rugby union talent in Fiji.
