Featherstone Rovers to Honor Rugby League Legend Rob Burrow
Featherstone Rovers, the Championship rugby league club, have announced they will dedicate an upcoming fixture to the memory of Rob Burrow, the former Leeds Rhinos star who tragically passed away last month after a battle with motor neurone disease (MND).
The club has confirmed that Burrow’s funeral this Sunday will be marked with a 77-second applause ahead of their match against Whitehaven. This touching tribute reflects Burrow’s iconic jersey number during his illustrious career.
Furthermore, Featherstone Rovers have revealed that their fixture against Doncaster on July 20 will be a celebration of Burrow’s life. As part of the extensive tributes planned, the team will wear a limited-edition MND awareness shirt featuring Burrow’s signature. Only 777 of these unique jerseys have been produced, with each one numbered to commemorate the player’s legacy.
“The rugby league community has been deeply affected by Burrow’s passing, as his courageous fight against MND inspired millions and helped raise substantial funds to support those living with the condition.”
Among those expected to attend the funeral is Burrow’s close friend, Kevin Sinfield, who is returning from England’s rugby union tour of New Zealand specifically for the occasion.
This heartfelt dedication from Featherstone Rovers underscores the profound impact Rob Burrow had on the sport of rugby league and the wider community. The club’s efforts to honor his memory and raise awareness for MND are a testament to the enduring legacy of this beloved player.
