Featherstone Rovers Boosted by Dec Patton Signing Amid Off-Field Challenges
Featherstone Rovers, a prominent force in the Championship, have long sought to earn promotion to the Super League. However, a series of heartbreaking playoff defeats has denied the club this opportunity in recent years. This season has brought a new set of challenges, as the Rovers have found themselves embroiled in off-field controversies, including a public dispute with former player Dane Chisholm over unpaid wages and a winding-up petition from investment firm Investec, as reported by City AM.
Despite these setbacks, the club has received a boost to their on-field aspirations with the announcement of a significant signing. On June 21, 2024, Featherstone Rovers revealed that they have secured the services of Dec Patton, a former Warrington Wolves half-back, until the end of the season. Patton, a product of the Warrington academy, made 108 appearances for the Super League club over a six-year spell before joining Salford Red Devils in 2021 and later the Bradford Bulls.
“Great to have you with us, Dec!” the club’s official Twitter account, X, stated in a post introducing the new addition.
Patton’s arrival comes as Featherstone Rovers sit in sixth place in the Championship, 10 points behind leaders Wakefield Trinity and two points behind the Bradford Bulls, who have also been active in the transfer market, securing the signing of Franklin Pele from Hull FC.
As Featherstone Rovers continue their pursuit of a long-awaited return to the Super League, the acquisition of Dec Patton, a player with extensive experience at the top level, will undoubtedly bolster their chances of success in the remainder of the 2024 rugby league season.
