Edinburgh have secured the signing of Glasgow Warriors fly-half Ross Thompson on a one-year deal ahead of the upcoming season. The 25-year-old Scot will return to the city he grew up in after spending the last four seasons with the Warriors.

Thompson, who earned three caps for Scotland with his debut coming against Tonga in 2021, joined Glasgow ahead of the 2020/21 season after impressing with the Glasgow Hawks while at university. During his time with the Warriors, he made 48 appearances for the club.

“I’m absolutely delighted to be joining Edinburgh next season,” said Thompson after signing. “I’m very grateful to Glasgow Warriors for the opportunities that I’ve had which have allowed me to develop as a player, and I’ve really enjoyed my time at the club.”

The talented fly-half expressed his excitement about the move, highlighting the potential of the Edinburgh squad and the opportunity to represent the city he grew up in. “The chance to challenge myself in a new environment and hearing the way the Edinburgh players speak about the club, I know it’s a great team to be a part of,” he added.

Edinburgh head coach Sean Everitt was equally thrilled with the signing, praising Thompson’s rugby intelligence and decision-making abilities. “He’s a really smart player with a great understanding of the game. He’s a strong decision-maker and a real threat with the ball in hand,” Everitt said.

The coach emphasized that Thompson’s signing will add valuable competition for the number 10 jersey, which will ultimately benefit the entire Edinburgh squad. “We’re confident he will thrive in our environment and contribute significantly to the team next season,” Everitt concluded.

With his proven experience at the Glasgow Warriors and international level, Ross Thompson’s arrival at Edinburgh promises to strengthen the team’s backline and provide additional depth and quality in the fly-half position.
