Rugby League Results: England to Face France Without Head Coach Shaun Wane
In a surprising turn of events, England’s rugby league team will be without their head coach Shaun Wane for their upcoming mid-season international against France this weekend. Wane underwent unexpected surgery on Tuesday evening due to complications from a previous ankle operation, ruling him out of the trip to France.
With Wane sidelined, assistant coach Andy Last will take charge of the national team as they prepare for the one-off fixture.
“He’s just coming round from his operation. By all accounts that’s gone well and they’ve dealt with the infection and the complications which we had from initial op, that’s been resolved,” Last revealed.
Despite Wane’s absence, Last assured that preparations have not been severely disrupted.
“They’ve dealt with adversity in their club careers and there’s been some unfortunate things that have happened this week but they’re professional and they’ve dealt with it as you’d expect them to,” he said.
Although Wane will not be present on the sidelines, the England head coach will still have input in team selection and access to training sessions via the team’s analytical tools.
“He’s still got his finger on the pulse, and on game-day I’m sure he’ll give us some tips beforehand but he’s confident in myself and the rest of the staff to get the job done,” Last added.
This weekend’s rugby league fixture between England and France serves as a crucial mid-season international camp for the national side ahead of their highly anticipated Test series against Samoa later this year. Fans and enthusiasts of the rugby league world cup, sky sports rugby league, and bbc rugby league will be keen to follow the team’s performance in Wane’s absence.
